Unique Christmas Gifts for Book Lovers

12:34

You'd think that book-lovers are the easiest people to buy for; just get them a big fat novel to sink their teeth into and they'll be happy, right?  But when it comes to actually choosing the perfect book, you realise that you don't know what they've already read, what they'll like, or who else has had the same idea as you.

So instead of agonising over which one novel to get them out of all the hundreds of possibilities, why not go crazy and buy them something a bit different? I've come up with a few ideas to get you inspired:

Classic book Kindle and eBook covers

I almost bought myself one of these in the British Library gift shop, despite owning neither a Kindle nor an eBook.  If you know that your friend has that one classic book that they always come back to, or perhaps they're a Mr Darcy enthusiast, then one of these would be the perfect Christmas present.  The ones in the picture are by KleverCase and can be purchased from notonthehighstreet.com for £24.95, but they are available elsewhere if you're looking for a specific novel. Perhaps not quite the right thing for the guy you spoke to once and picked for your secret santa, but maybe for a close friend or relative.

Mugs from The Literary Gift Company

I'm sorry but I need this mug.  And all the other mugs on this website.  And that definitely has nothing to do with my unhealthy obsession with mugs... I found these on The Literary Gift Company, where there are so many different designs to choose from, all of which come up at around £10.  If your friend doesn't drink hot drinks, ask them if they're okay, then have a browse through some of the other amazing gifts on offer here.

Quotation Jewellery from the Literary Emporium

These quote-inspired pieces of jewellery are lovely ways of adding a literary aspect to a gift. Each necklace, ring, or pair of earrings comes on a card with a quote written on it, hopefully from your friend's favourite book.  Again, The Literary Emporium is another site packed full of amazing things, so even if you're not keen on the jewellery, don't ignore this one!  The prices range from £10-£20 for the jewellery, which seems pretty reasonable.  You had better be quick though, as lots of the best ones (in my opinion, of course) have already sold out!

Tequila Mockingbird

Okay, so this one is a book, but not a novel, so I think it counts as 'unique'.  I've seen these around in quite a few shops this Christmas, including Waterstones (£8.99) and Whitestuff.  This is essentially a cocktail book disguised as something intellectual, which ticks all the boxes for me and would make the perfect pressie for an English Literature student, or just a friend who appreciates books and wine (or vodka).

Literary Quotation Perpetual Calendar

This pretty calendar is one of the other things I found over at The Literary Emporium, where an A4 version would cost you £14.50.  It's one of the more expensive ideas, but remember that the recipient will enjoy it every single day for an entire year!  Not only are the illustrations beautifully hand-drawn, but the inspirational literary quotes will hopefully keep your friend going during those somewhat less appealing months.  Why not buy this for someone who lives in the same house as you? Then you too can be inspired!

I hope that these ideas have got your brain whirring and that you manage to find that perfect gift! I'd love to hear what you decide on in the end, so do let me know in the comments below. Also, if you're reading this as a friend or relative of mine, hint hint!
